HUFFMAN FAMILY GENEALOGY

Welcome to my home page. Hopefully you will find an intrest here in my family. My branch of the Huffman family has been in America since October 2, 1749, when George Phillip Huffman brought his family from Rotterdam to the Port of Philadelphia. George Huffman and Katerina Rien stayed a short time in Pennsylvania and then moved on to the Shenandoah Valley of VA. In about 1752 the family moved on to the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina and then on to the Falling Creek area in Lincoln County North Carolina.

The son of George Huffman and Katerina Rien, Martin T. Huffman was approximately 28 yrs of age when he took a wife Anna Barbara Aker. Martin lived in Fredrick Co. Maryland and was recorded there with his wife and family in the 1776 census, and their first son John was born about 1763 in MD. Martin took an oath of allegiance and moved his family to Culpeper County Virginia by 1781. Martin was on the soldiers list in Culpeper, VA for the remainder of the Revolutionary War. In 1796 Martin and family purchased property from a man in Culpeper county that owned land in Lincoln Co. NC. and moved his family there. According to records Martin aquired as much as 400 acers of land there before his death October 7,1822. Anna Barbara died in November of the same year. They died intestate and their Estate was settled in July of 1823. The Administrator of the estate held an auction that lasted several days and items were purchased by many people in the area. The land was divided up in to lots each worth $100 and deeded to the heirs. Son George (mistakenly refered to by some as the son of Balthazar Huffman) received the home place and the surrounding property and he purchased brother John's property the next year. George was married to Susannah Hoots and was a resident of the area until his death December 9, 1848. John returned to what is beleived to be somewhere in VA.

The youngest son of Martin was Henry born in 1781. Henry is known to have married to Elizabeth Hoots, prior to 1805. Elizabeth was the daughter of Michael Hoots and Juliana (Youley) Linebarger of Lincoln County, NC. Henry and Elizabeth had 9 children before 1826. Henry and Elizabeth moved to Liberty twsp.,Parke Co. IN in 1824 They raised their family there and when Elizabeth died November 11, 1848, Henry and his son George moved to Cumberland County IL. Henry passed on sometime between 1860 and 1870. Henry was last known to be living with son George and family in Cumberland Co., IL (1860 Census).

Henry's oldest son Lawson Andrew Huffman married Mary (Polly) Rawlings daughter of Aaron Rawlings and Rebecca Smith of Washington twsp. Parke Co. IN. about 1829 in either Indiana or Kentucky. They had seven children, six daughters and one son.

Their oldest Daughter Christiann Married first David W. Russell,they had one child, Mary J. Russell who died in infantcy, and married second Solomon F. McMasters both of Parke CO. They had six children born and raised in the Parke CO.,IN area.

Their second, Sarah Ann married John Warren McMasters a first cousin to Solomon. Sarah Ann and John had one child Sarah Ann; and mother, Sarah died shortly after, leaving the child to be raised by her Father and Mother.

Their third, Lucinda, married Eli York of Parke CO. they had six children. Husband Eli was killed as a result of wounds recieved at the Battle of Thompson's Station during the Civil War. Eli was in the same company as his brother-in-law Ira Andrew. Lucinda,lived in the Ridge Farm, IL area and remained a widow the rest of her life.

Their fourth Rebecca, married William Hudson of Parke CO. they were living in Goshen, IN in 1866 and had three children.They were living in Coffeville, KS at the time of their death and are buried there.

Their fifth Gilla, married Daniel Williams Finney and moved to Dana, Vermillion CO., IN. They had seven children an remained in Dana as grain brokers and hardware store proprietors.

Their sixth, Ira Andrew Huffman was born and raised in Parke CO. until the age of eighteen. Ira Joined the Indiana Infantry in 1862 and fought in the Civil War. Ira was in Company A of the 85th Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers. Ira was a prisoner of war and marched from Thompson's station in TN. to Libby Prison in Richmond VA. Ira contracted Reumatism while a prisoner and suffered with this affliction until his death in 1927. Ira married Minerva Jane Isbell after the war and they had two children. Son, Millard died young and their daughter Mary was raised by the Kirby family as Minerva died in 1876. Ira moved to Anthony, Harper CO., Kansas and lived there until 1892. Ira married Lovina Kinnel in Kingman Kansas in 1882. Ira made the 1893 run for land in the Cherokee Strip and resided in Lahoma, Garfield CO., OK

Their seventh child Samira Jane,was born and also raised in Parke County IN. She married Henry Clay Harvey. The Harveys raised their family in Parke County and were residents there until their deaths. They are both buried in the Harvey Cemetery, Parke County IN.

My direct line continues through Ira Andrew Huffman and the children of his second marriage. Their fourth Child James Everett Huffman was born in Anthony Harper County Kansas May 15, 1889. James was raised in Kansas and Oklahoma and finally settled predominately in the Pawnee Oklahoma Area. James married Anna Mary Schone who also was born in Kansas and had settled with her parents in the Pawnee area. They were married in Pawnee January 1, 1910. They had 9 children, Everett Monroe, Phillip, Layton Ellsworth, Reva Louise, Ellis William, James Junior, and Roberta Nellie. Ellis William died when only a couple of years old and two other children passed on at birth. The family moved to Red Bluff, CA. sometime in 1935. James farmed with his family for a few years in the Bend area along the Sacramento River, before going in to the Service Station and Garage business at 1000 Walnut street in Red Bluff, CA.

My direct line again continues through their son James Junior Huffman, who was born in Pawnee County, OK. June 3, 1921. James married Leona Marie Schmitz in Reno, NV in September of 1941. He entered the military service and was in the U S Army Air Corp during WW II. James and Leona had six children, Nancy Lee, Dennis William, Donald James, Vicki Ann, David Phillip,and Susan Margeurite. The children were all raised in the Gerber CA. area south of Red Bluff, CA. Jim was the manager of a fairly large orchard ranch called "The Elder Creek Ranch" and had his own farming intrests on the side until retiring and moving to his own ranch in Bonanza, Or. Jim died there July 5, 1979. Leona still resides there and continues to operate the ranch.
